General Rules
You must be in the Extreme Gear Labs Discord server in order to participate.
DO NOT start your match immediately as some games may be streamed. Always check the #callouts channel at the beginning of an event. The event organizers will indicate which matches are to be streamed, or played off-stream.
Be on time for your match. Players generally have around 15 minutes from when their match is announced. Failure to show up will result in penalization.
You must have a stable connection. If a connection is unplayable, please inform a TO. The TOs may request to conduct a 'lag test' before reaching a decision. Failure to comply can result in disqualification.
Be a good sport. Never harass your opponent, and don't rage too hard because you lost.
Players are free to quit a tournament at any time for any reason. Just let the TO know.
Your username on Matcherino/Challonge must match your username or nickname within the Extreme Gear Labs Discord.
Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in game loses, set loses, tournament disqualification, and/or bans from future events.
Tournament organizers reserve the right to make any call or exception to any of these rules.
Stage Striking and Character Selection Rules
Stage select follows a stage striking system where players alternate bans during the first race of the set. In later races, the loser of the previous race gets to pick a stage after the winner bans. It is defined by the following:
Race One
Players may only play on "Neutral Stages" (found below).
Players must decide amongst themselves who is considered to be "Player 1" and "Player 2". In netplay tournaments, it is usually assumed that the host of the netplay room is Player 1, you may also play Rock-Paper-Scissors or do a coin toss.
Player 1 selects a stage, it is not allowed to be played for game 1. This is referred to as a 'ban'. After that, Player 2 bans 2 more stages. Finally, Player 1 picks from the remaining 2 stages.
Player 1 must select their character and gear first. After that, Player 2 may select their character and gear. Player 1 may not change their selection in reaction to Player 2's pick.
Race Two and Beyond
Bans from the previous games do not carry over.
Players may play on "Neutral Stages" and "Counterpick Stages" (found below).
The winner of the previous race bans 4 stages.
The loser of the previous race picks from the remaining stages.
The winner must select their character and gear first. After that, the loser may select their character and gear. The winner of the previous race may not change their selection in reaction to the loser's pick.
Dave's Stupid Rule (DSR)
You may not pick a stage you have previously won on within the same set.

Skip Rules
A "Skip" is defined as an action intended by the player that allows them to bypass an intended section(s) of the track in order to save time over the fastest possible intended routing (routing without skips) on that type.
Players may only utilize skips that are defined as "Tournament Legal". Classification for these can be found here for Sonic Riders DX. Legal skips for Sonic Riders Regravitified will be added soon.
Usage of any other skip is banned, and may result in that game being considered forfeit. If your opponent uses an illegal skip, it is up to you to invoke the "Termination Rules" by pausing and calling a tournament organizer to assess the situation.
If you want to understand the criteria for which skips are considered "Tournament Legal" and which are not, check out the [TBD] section of our website.

Pause Rules
Should a pause occur before the race has "started" (may be determined by tournament organizers), there will be no penalty. An example of this includes pausing and restarting to change the music.
Should a pause occur after the race has started, the game is considered forfeit by the player that paused. This excludes pausing due to the "Termination Rules".
Players may pause the game to invoke the "Termination Rules".
Termination Rules
If an unexpected error or glitch occurs or your opponent performs an illegal skip, players should pause the game immediately. The tournament organizers must be summoned, and you may not unpause until the situation has been assessed by a tournament organizer. The course of action will be determined by the tournament organizer, and may include unpausing and continuing the race, restarting the race, or awarding a win to a player. Unexpected errors or glitches are defined as being not reasonably replicable or not well known, the game being put into a state where a player(s) cannot finish the race, or desyncs from Dolphin netplay.Examples of unexpected errors and glitches:
Desyncs through Dolphin netplay.
Clipping through a floor or wall that is otherwise known to have collision.
Random, spontaneous death.
Map generated turbulence on Babylon Garden spawning incorrectly (SRDX).
Going out of bounds with no method of respawning.
Being hit by a tornado without colliding with one (SRDX).
False invocations of this rule may result in penalty.
By not immediately pausing, you are signalling that you wish to not invoke this rule and may not attempt to do so at a later point in the race.
If possible, try to have a clip ready to show judges.
Tie Rules
Should a tie occur, the match is to be replayed on the same stage and with the same gear and characters.
Should the rematch also result in a tie, it is considered a win for both players for both set score and DSR purposes. You cannot gain a set-winning point this way.
If the rematch is a tie, AND both players are on set-point, the win is awarded to the player with the lowest port.
Test Lap
Especially in competitive play, it is customary to do a test lap with your opponent. This allows for both players to get used to the delay, and increase or decrease buffer as needed before the set begins. Usually you will do 1 lap on Metal City, although longer test runs are acceptable on high buffers (12 and up).
Test Lap should be completed before the stage banning phase begins. If you ban stages without doing a test lap, it is assumed you are content with the connection.
Gentleman's Clause
If all players in the game agree, they can ignore any of the above rules. The TO reserves the right to negate this in extreme circumstances.
Player Limitations
Some events are limited to certain types of players. This includes regional tournaments, and those intended for new and/or mid level players, such as the "Beginner Tournaments".
For regional events, we have created a map image with colored sections to help you find out if you are eligible for a tournament. Players from the wrong region will simply be disqualified.
For "Beginner Tournaments", we have a list of high level players that are not allowed to enter. We take the competitive integrity of our events very seriously. As such, anyone on the "Beginner Tournament Banlist" caught smurfing will be subject to no less than a 3 month ban from entering any Extreme Gear Labs competition, if not longer.
Players who are banned can appeal using our Ban Appeal Form
If you filled out the ban appeal form, please feel free to notify us of your submission via Discord or Twitter. We don't check for submissions daily.
