Developer Talk
Extreme Gear Labs is back! Today we'd like to announce the development of Sonic Riders Regravitified Version 1.1. It's been in the works, and we're happy to share our design goals for the coming update. This is the first Developer Talk we're doing, and we plan to do more in the future.
For those new to RG: Sonic Riders Regravitified is a mod of Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, with improvements and overhauls to the game for both casual and competitive players. We work to optimize the game for multiplayer and bringing all the things people love about the first Riders game without compromising the core identity of the Gravity mechanics. If you loved the original Sonic Riders, you should try out Regravitified!
Our primary goal for the next update is focusing on improving the core game mechanics. Regravitified introduced Boosting, Drifting, Gravity Void (Tornadoes from the first game), and Gravity Burst in Version 1.0. These features added well needed player interaction and options to the game. With Version 1.1, we want to refine these mechanics along with mechanics from the original game. By improving the core gameplay first, we believe RG will become easier to work on and have future updates more quickly.
These are the core areas we want to address:
Improving Maneuverability to increase player's options around the track
Improving Gravity Control compared to Drift Dashing to bring focus back to Gravity
Improve the reliability of Gravity Burst to ensure players make it across long gaps without risk of falling off the map
Improving Catchup Mechanics for more fun interaction and exciting races
Improving Recovery so that players can get back into the action without feeling bogged down for too long
How Boosting interacts with other Stats to make Acceleration and Handling stronger
Improving resources available so that players don't feel too constrained in their options
Balancing Type Shortcuts so that everyone can use their favorite characters regardless of the track
And as always, redesigning more Extreme Gears so that there's more interesting picks available (because no one likes when their favorite sucks)
In future Developer Talks, we plan to dive into more depth with these topics. Feel free to join the discussion in our Discord Server. We hope you look forward to the next update and we'll see you on the track!
